Subject: [Soo Bahk] Soo Bahk Do in Kansas City area

Hello All;

... Currently my 6 yr old son is 9th Gup,  almost ready to get his orange belt, except that we are moving.  He has really enjoyed his karate, (training with Mrs. Vicki Kenyon at Kenyon's Soo Bahk Do in Solana Beach, CA- she is wonderful, if you haven't met her you should try).  I am constantly amazed that my rather wild and chaotic little boy can pull himself together and consistently demonstrate what he has learned from Soo Bahk Do. Sometimes, kids will do something amazing, like sit nicely through a two hour testing when they normally can't sit still for two seconds, and its breathtaking.  Soo Bahk Do has taught him this.

I am surprised that there are no studios in the KC area.  While I am sure there are other martial arts options out there for kids, even some that would be Korean based and very similar (like Tang Soo Do), I would really prefer to keep him in the same art, where he wouldn't have to start over.  We have been very impressed with the standards and philosophies of Soo Bahk Do, that we haven't seen as big a focus in other arts that other kids we know are involved in.

So.  My point is, if there are any members in the KC area, I would love to communicate with you and discuss putting something together.  If we could find someone to teach, even someone who is maybe a Dan but not a Master?  If that is allowed?  Then we could go to St Louis or something when needed, for official testing.

Also I should apologize because I am sure I haven't used all the correct salutations and such, I'm sure if my son could read this he'd be chastising me, too.

Thank You,
Jenny Meade

Dear Bothers and Sisters in Moo Duk Kwan,

I hope you and your family are in good health and spirits.

I thought that some of you may enjoy hearing of an experience that I was
privileged to have. I took part in a special moment when each of my kids
was a candidate in the Fall 2006 Dan Shim Sa in Region 4. I spent the
time taking pictures and videos of the event and these represented the
weh gung of the event. However, the most meaningful experience for me
was the Shim Gung and Neh Gung I experienced. What I experienced as a
dad was a great deal of pride and as a practitioner empathy as I watched
my kids demonstrate the Art to the best of their ability. My son was and
Ee Dan candidate in the 117th Classing and my daughter a Cho Dan
candidate. Having been through each of these as a candidate myself,  I
empathized with my kids as they performed. To have both of my kids in
the same Shim Sa at the same time was a dream of mine and helped me
understand them both better as young people and the leaders that they
are. I am thankful to the Founder and Kwan Jang Nim, Bartolacci Sa Bom
Nim and the TAC, all my seniors and the Art itself for being part of the
'village' that is raising my kids. I cannot hope for a better
organization and set of models for them to emulate. This was truly an
event and Art that I will hold in high esteem always.
